What a shot list app has to do in 2026

A shot list is the most-read document on set. The DP checks it before every setup, the AD uses it to keep time, and the client wants to know whether their product shot is in it. A good shot list app makes each row answer the same questions: what is in the frame, who is in it, where it is shot and how long it runs.

The 10 best shot list apps in detail

#1

TillyBoard

Best for commercial and brand-film crews who plan the whole shoot from the list

TillyBoard is pre-production software for commercials, brand films and social content. Its shot list has one row per shot with action, on-screen text, sound, cast, location, duration and a preview frame. Shots are grouped into segments, and each segment adds up its runtime against a target: green fits, red runs long. You know before the shoot whether the 30-second spot fits into 30 seconds.

Preview frames are generated from the action text of selected rows. Creatives, Timeline and Script show the same shots in other views, and the shots feed the shooting schedule and call sheet. Tilly AI, the assistant inside TillyBoard, drafts the shot list from your brief; you set the direction.

Strengths

  • Runtime per segment against a target, with a total across all creatives
  • AI preview frames per shot, optionally with your cast and locations as reference
  • Talents and locations are picked from the project right in the row
  • Browser, iOS app and PDF export for everyone without an account

Weaknesses

  • Built for commercials and brand content rather than feature-film script breakdowns
  • Free plan is limited to one own project
  • AI images are capped per plan, from 10 a month on Free to 200 on Team
  • Native apps only for Apple devices; elsewhere it runs in the browser

Pricing: Free €0 (1 project, 1 GB, 10 AI images a month). Creator €22 a month or €19 billed annually, Studio €39 (€35), Team €109 (€99), Enterprise on request. Excluding VAT, monthly plans cancel any time.

Who it is for: Directors, producers and in-house video teams who shoot spots and brand films and want list, schedule and call sheet from the same shots.

#2

StudioBinder

Best shot list inside a full suite for scripted film and TV

StudioBinder is a browser-based production management suite. Its shot list, with a shot tagger, sits next to a screenplay editor, script breakdown, storyboard, stripboard scheduling and call sheets, so shots connect to scenes and the schedule.

Strengths

  • Shot list, storyboard, stripboard and call sheet in one workspace
  • Works from the screenplay with script breakdown
  • Free plan without time limit

Weaknesses

  • Free plan stops at ten shots, so a real shoot needs a paid plan
  • No native app according to its help center; mobile is the responsive website
  • Extra users cost $25 a month each

Pricing: Free never expires but caps each module at ten entries. Starter $29 a month (1 user, 10 projects), Indie $49 (2 users), Professional $99 (4 users); extra users $25 a month.

Who it is for: Production companies and indie filmmakers working from a screenplay who want one system for every department.

  • Client comments without sign-up, password-protected links

Weaknesses

  • The shot list is a by-product of the storyboard, not the core
